About Somayyeh Kamalou

I completed a Bachelor of Arts (B.A., Honours) in Psychology from University of Waterloo in 2013 and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Clinical and Counselling Psychology in 2019 at the University of Toronto. I am currently completing the third year of my Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Clinical and Counselling Psychology at the University of Toronto and training in the Intensive Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) program at Sunnybrook hospital. I am registered as a Student Affiliate with the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA).

I support individuals in their struggles with symptoms of acculturation, anxiety, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression, grief and loss, gender/sexuality-related issues, interpersonal difficulties, life transition, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Whatever the nature of your difficulties, my role is to provide a safe and accepting environment to allow collaborative exploration and understanding of your internal experience and finding healthy and adaptive coping skills to help you complete your healing journey.

I use evidence-based approaches tailored to clients’ needs. These include practicing from a collaborative therapeutic model incorporating modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), The focus of my clinical experience has been directed toward the age range of 18-85.

I am fluent in English and Persian and provide services in both languages.

Secondary Assessments for Transition-Related Surgery (TRS)

Secondary Assessments for Transition-Related Surgery (TRS) require an initial 80-minute consultation session and 80-minutes for writing the report. If Somayyeh identifies only one 80-minute consultation as necessary in order to complete the report, a payment of $250 will be required at the end of the initial 80-minute consultation session and she will produce the secondary assessment report within 2 weeks following the initial 80-minute consultation session. Payment can be made through cash, credit card, debit, or eTransfer.

If Somayyeh identifies further sessions are necessary and you agree to meet for those sessions, an additional $85 will be added for every 50-minute session to the base amount of $250. If you decide to postpone further appointments, you will only be required to pay $125 at the conclusion of the initial consultation session understanding that Somayyeh will not create any secondary assessment report until future appointments are scheduled and the full fee is paid.

Note: If you have extended health benefits, you will be able to submit the receipt for this service to your provider for reimbursement if you are covered for psychological services.

Important note regarding patients who make sliding scale arrangements: All session payments for sliding scale appointments are by eTransfer and sent at the same time you schedule each appointment. Please send all eTransfers to [email protected] noting my name and your session date and time. If payment is not received within 24 hours of scheduling, the appointment will be cancelled. Cancellation Policy

When you book a session, your clinician reserves their time for you. In the event that you will be unable to keep an appointment, please notify your clinician at least 24 hours in advance, so that someone else may utilize the time. Similarly, when your clinician is unable to keep the appointment with you, they will give you more than a 24-hour notice and rebook to another date and time.

In the case whereby you are unable to provide 24-hour cancellation notice (e.g., you cancel an appointment on the day of the appointment [i.e. the same day] or do not show up for a scheduled appointment), unless for emergency reasons (e.g., medical or family emergencies), you will be charged the fee for your session and payment will be required at your next scheduled session.

Note: Employee Assistance Programs and other insurance-based programs will not reimburse you, the client, for missed appointment costs.
